MVRDA finally drops the single of the decade, 'CESSATION,' on DPMO

For years now, fans and artists alike have begged for this plate. Now, it's finally in our playlists.

The plate of the year is finally here.

Nah, scratch that: The plate of the decade is finally here.

MVRDA's highly coveted song, CESSATION, has landed on DPMO like the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs.

This song has become one of the most drool-worthy items in the dubstep industry over the last few years, creating a demand that has rarely been seen before. It's been supported by artists like FuntCase, PhaseOne, Samplifire, HAMRO and Mile32.

But, would you believe me if I told you this very well could have been the last song written under the MVRDA project?

The word 'Cessation' means to cease; to bring something to an end.

That was MVRDA back in 2020. He was in a stage of his life where he was looking to move away from music as a career, and wanted to create something that would leave a mark.

"Although my goal was to leave a mark, I didn't expect this sort of response," MVRDA told us. "To now release a track that was intended to be my last track ever is quite an emotional feeling."

He said that he associates CESSATION with a time in his life that was rough. He wasn't in the best of places.

Fast forward six years and things are completely different. MVRDA has reinvigorated his career, living in the United States and touring nearly every weekend. He's been releasing regular music and his name is back to being a household mainstay.

A lot has changed since MVRDA originally wrote this song. But what remains the same is our thirst for the pumping pre-drop vocal, snappy quarter notes and scorching sound design.

CESSATION is now the second single MVRDA has recently released on DPMO, coming after QWENGDEM, which dropped in November 2025. Could an even bigger project be on the way?

I could sit here for hours and yap about how this is the plate of the decade, and how MVRDA has single-handedly changed the industry. But I don't just want you to take my word for it.

I want you to take the word of the die-hard fans and hard-working artists who are hyping him up.

"About to say goodbye to my favourite dub plate for the last 3 years 😩 however can’t wait to see it make it to the rest of the world," said hudson_goodchild on Instagram.

"HOLY FUCK. ITS HERE. IVE WAITED YEARS," said roundz.music.

Others coined it, "The best day for humanity," and praised him as "TommyGOD."

But there is one person's opinion who we specifically sought out. Someone who has supported MVRDA since the early days: FuntCase. When MVRDA sent him this song over Discord years ago, he instantly knew it would be perfect for DPMO.

FuntCase has been playing this song out live for a few years, building hype and creating a massive demand from the fanbase.

"I still feel like we live in an age where songs really don't get the play out they need (or deserve) before they're released to the masses," FuntCase said. "Hit songs really need time to marinate and get familiarized."

He applied this same strategy to SweetTooth and Lev3l's song, Impending Doom, back in 2017-2018. You just had to go see his live set if you wanted to hear the song.

"We slowly passed it around to the right people in the scene to play it and it became a hit," FuntCase said. "This same thing I still apply to certain songs now, which I know will do well. I'm happy because CESSATION really got its share of playouts, especially in the riddim scene."

Without FuntCase's eager ears and dubplate leadership, the song may not have garnered the momentum it deserves.

If you haven't streamed CESSATION yet, stop what you're doing and make it happen.
