DirtySnatcha drops long-awaited debut album, ‘Back to the Basics’

The dubstep producer is digging deep into the genre's roots for this latest release.

Some might say dubstep’s golden era took place between 2009 - 2012. Others may argue that we’re in the midst of the genre’s most prominent resurgence yet.

Dubstep producer, DirtySnatcha, believes that the two distinct styles can not only coexist with one another, but complement each other.  His debut album, ‘Back to the Basics’  embodies this ideology, bringing a renewed perspective on the genre’s origins.

‘Back to the Basics’, is exactly what its namesake implies - a work that upholds the integrity of dubstep’s earliest roots. It’s a prime example of when eras collide, applying classic dubstep production styles like UK dubstep and grime to today’s progressive sound design.

Hailing from England, the artist looked to his roots to inspire a work that pays homage to the UK’s  underground scene – one that shaped the genre into what we know it as today.

DirtySnatcha’s background is among the main influences reflected in the album. Replicating the edginess of UK underground while incorporating his signature sound, 'Back to the Basics' is all-encompassing.

“Growing up in England, I was immersed in the UK underground scene where genres like dubstep and UK garage really took off,” says DirtySnatcha. “There’s a distinct sound that comes from English producers, rooted in the gritty, bass-heavy production style that defines a lot of classic dubstep. Listening to artists from that era had a huge influence on me, and that’s reflected in my music.”

The UK’s impact on dubstep is undeniable. Artists like Cookie Monsta, Flux Pavillion, Gentlemen's Club and other UK-based producers have all played key roles in the genre’s evolution. DirtySnatcha hones in on these inspirations in each of the seven tracks, channeling a nostalgic feel through gritty, wobbly basslines and meticulously chosen samples.

“Some of the main artists who’ve influenced me from back in the day include Cookie Monsta, Flux Pavilion, Doctor P, Gentlemens Club, and P0gman," DirtySnatcha said. “From Cookie Monsta's heavy, aggressive bass lines to Flux Pavilion's melodic approach, they all left a big impression on me and have inspired my style and production over the years.”

The album’s “blast from the past” theme is captured in its artwork as well. Inspired by the classic film, Back to the Future, the album seeks to to transport listeners back to 2012 - a time when dubstep mainly consisted of raw and experimental energy. ‘Back to the Basics’ brings a new layer of modernization to this classic sound, placing this album in a league of its own.

In the weeks leading up to the album drop, DirtySnatcha released a series of singles (a new one each week, to be exact) building anticipation among fans and old school dubstep lovers alike. Tracks like Good Vibez and Shatter have already amassed tens of thousands of streams, with other tracks steadily following suit.

DirtySnatcha is currently gearing up for his closing set at the Forest stage at Lost Lands Music Festival, taking place this Friday.

His set will feature tracks from ‘Back to the Basics’ alongside the many dubstep bangers he’s known to drop during his performances. The artist deems his track, Pimpin, as one of those bangers - emphasizing his excitement for the crowd’s reaction to this latest hit.

“I’m most excited to drop Pimpin during my set at the Forest Stage,” says DirtySnatcha. “It’s got that raw, old-school dubstep vibe that really hits hard, and I think it’ll resonate with the crowd. The track captures the essence of that early dubstep sound, and I can’t wait to see how people react when it drops.”

DirtySnatcha has had a whirlwind of a year. His debut album release aside, the artist continues to meet the demands of a busy tour schedule while releasing new tracks on a regular basis.

In addition to his set at Lost Lands next week, DirtySnatcha is currently making his rounds on the US tour circuit. Fans can expect the artist to play sets in West Hollywood, Chicago, and Denver next month.
