A unique, inaudible watermark is embedded into every private track, letting artists protect their dubplates or revoke access at any time.

Dubplates have long been one of our favorite parts of electronic dance music culture.
The feeling of buying a sick song that isn't available to just anyone. The song you paid the artist directly to obtain.
However, leakers have been spoiling that part of our scene by selling and sharing music without authorization. This undercuts prices and makes it harder for the artists we love to maintain music careers.
Now, imagine being able to identify the leaker of a dubplate. Better yet, imagine there being no leakers at all.
That's the vision being implemented by the brand new platform called pl8list (plate list). Founded anonymously by artists, it was created to tackle music leaks and unauthorized sharing of dubplates.
Within minutes of the pl8list Instagram account going live, people were dropping comments with their thoughts on the new platform. "This rivals sliced bread..." "Riddim Bruce Wayne," and "Riddim game changer," are among our favorites.

Some of our favorite artists like roi* and garp were early adopters of the platform, sharing their thoughts on the pl8list Discord channel.

"Until now, there has not been a reliable way to trace leaks back to the source and prevent them from happening again," said one of the pl8list founders. "Our goal is to be a serious obstacle for leakers and give peace of mind back to the people creating the music."
For those who don't know, a dubplate is an unreleased song that artists share and sell themselves. Dubplates are appealing due to their exclusivity, as they aren't available to the public, and they are more of an "in the know" type thing.
However, that rarity gets spoiled when a leaker purchases or rips a dubplate, then turns around and distributes it. The pl8list technology streamlines the dubplate workflow by providing an environment where artists can watermark, share privately and receive direct sales.
pl8list compensates artists 90 percent of revenues. The other 10 percent is kept in order to maintain the platform. These splits completely blow other platforms out of the water.
"pl8list is not a discovery platform or a streaming platform," said the founders. "It is a 'secret third option' built around exclusivity and being in the know with your favorite artists."
Artists can share their profile link on socials or send private links directly to buyers to sell and share music securely.
More on the watermarks
When dubplates are shared privately, pl8list embeds an inaudible identifier into the audio that is unique to each download. This results in a song that can be traced back to the original recipient.
The watermark is resistant to compression, file type conversion and tempo changes and can even be recovered from a partial audio clip. It's placed in multiple parts of the file to prevent easy removal.
The platform features a "Blame" tab if a leak occurs.

"Back in the old days, people would put their own unique watermarks on tunes themselves," SweetTooth said. "So this is a nice QOL update that's much needed."
And we agree, it's a pretty genius idea.
We commend pl8list for giving artists a secure way to monetize and share their work.
