ANTAGONIST is focused on tearout and riddim, and they just dropped 20 new tracks that have us running through a brick wall.

What makes up the perfect compilation?
From our perspective, it's having a balanced mix of recognizable names and upcoming artists. Having a solid story and creative inspiration. Having good people behind it to drive the vision.
At its core, a good compilation helps you discover music in a powerful way.
These are qualities of the debut compilation from the new riddim and tearout label called ANTAGONIST. It's a label founded by the team behind Reinelex Group, a bass music brand that's been active since 2015.
At the forefront of the release are artists like TRVCY, Madcore, Nosphere, TWO KIND, GOAT DUBZ, Eyelander, Rettchit and more. They've delivered filthy beats in the form of a 20-track compilation that has us wanting to snap apart a rail.

The label's founder, Renny Morales, mentioned that his passion motivated him to launch this project. He hand-picked this batch of riddim and tearout artists as the label's first cohort, delivering a powerful balance between well-known names and rising talent.
"For me, the real motivation is passion," Renny said. "I love doing this, and I think that’s the key for any project to last. If you only do it for money or recognition, it won’t survive. I’ve seen many labels fade away when the owner lost interest."
We respect Renny's drive and everything he's done for the dubstep scene since 2015. He's based out of Uruguay down in South America.
The 20-track release feels fresh. It feels different. It feels exciting.
Renny told us that he and TRVCY, one of the artists on the compilation, have known each other for years. They are actually from neighboring countries, Uruguay and Argentina.
The label's name, ANTAGONIST, was inspired by TRVCY's Never Say Die EP from 2019.
"The idea came very naturally during a conversation I had with TRVCY, a close friend of mine," Renny said. "It sounded raw, aggressive and captured exactly the vibe we had in mind."
Raw and aggressive is right. The compilation help us discover some tearout and riddim artists who will be going on the FBI Watch List. Those names include Valk, Rettchit, CLOVEL and INSIDIUS, among others.
One of our favorite songs on the compilation is Bait by Rettchit. He wrote this song with the intention of designing a filthy fake drop drenched in Square 4, just how we like it.

"This specific track, I intended to create as the first-of-its kind, having a fake drop entirely rather than just a fakeout, hence the name Bait," Rettchit said. "The track baits you with a simple square 4 drop to start you off, to then change into a full and powerful approach directly after."
He said he wanted to make something that would make for a great double, while remaining unique to his own sound. However, he has a deeper creative vision behind the sound design.
"I always think of something [like] a robotic raptor running away from something far larger," Rettchit said. "Fake drop is small and simple, (the bait being placed; said small creature being introduced). Whereas the actual drop is monstrous (larger dino creature being introduced), symbolizing there was a greater danger all along."
Read his quote while listening to the song and you'll see the vibrant visual in your head, too.

Another one of the comp's mouthwatering tracks is the zinger from TWO KIND and GOAT DUBZ called Dead Zone (feat. Stevie Rain). It starts with Stevie Rain's heavy screaming vocals, tied into catchy verses like, "God doesn't give a sh*t, heaven wouldn't let us in."
The two artists absolutely ripped this one up. TWO KIND had originally made Dead Zone himself, but after discovering GOAT DUBZ on Soundcloud, the two collaborated and did a total 360 on the original concept.
"GOAT DUBZ had this distorted tonal sound that I fell in love with after hearing the insane WIPs he's been cooking," TWO KIND said. "I listen to a lot of metal and pop punk; [After] blending that heavy metal intro style with Stevie's emo/sad boi vibe, [this song] was destined to be an awesome tune."
We love hearing both of their sounds meld into this satisfying banger, and it's safe to say we'd lose it if we heard this played live.

The third banger in our investigation is by TRVCY who is well respected in the scene. It's called Playing Games and was supported by SLANDER at their larger-than-life Starbase Festival set.
TRVCY told us that he wanted to make a longer song, destined to smack during live sets. That's exactly what he delivered. Check out SLANDER playing it at the 14:30 mark below.
Overall, we took a deep-dive into this comp because we believe in what the ANTAGONIST team is doing. We love seeing people who are passionate about this scene use their platforms to put on artists.
At Dubstep FBI, we are always here to support those chasing their dreams, and that's exactly what ANTAGONIST: Exodus I is all about.
We suggest you set aside time to give this one a front-to-back yourself.
